January Bishopric Message

The New Year brings opportunity to review the past and make plans for the future. Many of these plans often surround the making of New Year Resolutions. Diet, exercise, educational and relationship goals are a few that are commonly focused on. May I suggest 3 more that I believe will bring joy and meaning into our lives.

1.Seek to hear the voice of the Lord daily. With prayer and perfect faith feast upon the word of God. In a world where so many voices vie for our attention it is easy to put off the seeking and be swept in the currents of life. When Lehi described the rod of iron (Word of God) he told about those “holding fast and clinging to it.” “Holding fast and clinging” does not mean floating along with the current.

Seek to hear the voice of the Lord daily.

2.Take his yoke upon us. Once we have heard the voice of the Lord –go forth and do. This will require us to overcome the temptation to think we are supposed to do it alone. Here is the promise that the

Lord gives – I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

(John 14:18). In other words, Abide in me, and I (will abide) in you.

(John 15:4) We will be able to do, not because we are able, but, because he is able. We can rely on our perfect partner in it all.

Stay yoked through diligence, faith, and patience. To unyoke ourselves is foolishness.

3.Love as Christ loved. When we are yoked with Christ in the fields of our daily routines others will brush by us. Christ loves them as he loves us, but how do they know? By our love, kindness, encouragement and service we can lift the hands that hang down and strengthen the feeble knees. They will feel his love through us.

This is the process of true joy in our lives- helping others feel the Love of God in their lives.

Seek, Yoke, and Love
